I’m often asked, “What is natural beauty”?
Depending upon whom you ask, natural beauty will mean different things to different people.
To me, natural beauty simply means “beautiful from the inside out”.
In view of this, it just makes sense that living an overall healthier lifestyle is the first step to revitalizing your appearance.
In many cases, a simple lifestyle change is all it takes to completely revitalize your look. The key to natural beauty is to take care of your body from the inside out before attempting to fix problems with surface treatments like a miracle elixir or cosmetic cover up. As a result, your body, skin and hair will look healthy and vital because you are!
10 Tips to Help You Look Your Best, Naturally
Here are 10 tips to get your started:
1. Eat a Healthy, Nutritious Diet
As the saying goes, “You are what you eat”, so make sure you are following a nutritious, well-balanced diet–and getting enough vitamins and minerals each day. Add a natural, whole food, multivitamin to your morning routine to ensure that you are receiving all the nutrients your body needs. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds and try to avoid excess unhealthy fats, sugars, and processed foods. Your healthy diet will show through in your appearance as your skin clears and becomes more moist and supple.
2. Stay Hydrated
The next tip in our list is to always keep yourself hydrated. As skin dries out, it becomes inflexible and more susceptible to wrinkles. Instead of applying a heavy moisturizing cream externally, try drinking more water to provide moisture from the inside. This is a far healthier and natural solution to the common problem of dry skin.
3. Move Your Body
Exercise is probably the most powerful natural beauty tip. Regular physical activity improves blood flow to the skin, giving it a fuller, more colorful look naturally. Of course, exercise will also help you stay trim and looking good all-around. On top of the benefits to your appearance, working out on a regular basis will keep your internal organs and heart healthy, along with preventing some cancers and extending your life. So get moving and break a sweat!
4. Protect Your Skin
To avoid leathery, dry skin, stay out of the sun whenever possible. The UV rays from the sun may dry out your skin and cause it to wrinkle prematurely. If you must go out in direct sunlight, be sure to wear sunscreen that is rated SPF 15 or higher. Hats, sunglasses, and umbrellas can also help protect you when you are out in the sun.
5. Reduce Your Exposure to Harmful Chemicals
Cancer-causing chemicals are present in many different types and brands of cosmetics and personal care products found on store shelves across America, according to research conducted by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics. Hundreds of toxic chemicals have been found in commercial cosmetic products according to studies by the Environmental Working Group.
6. Take Charge
It’s disturbing to learn that many of your trusted personal care products are made with hazardous chemicals, however, safer alternatives are available. Take responsibility for the products you use to reduce toxic exposures on your body–and in your home–and protect your health.
7. Choose Simpler Ingredients
Choose products with simpler ingredient lists and fewer synthetic chemicals. Avoid synthetic fragrance (look for the word “fragrance” on labels), and use fewer products overall.
8. Do Your Own Product Research
It’s up to you to do our own research to find the safest products. You can use the Environmental Working Group’s Skin Deep database to evaluate your favorite products for toxicity. Since there are no legal standards for personal care products labeled as “pure,” “natural” or “organic,” look beyond the marketing claims and read labels carefully.
9. Choose Natural and Organic Products
Everything that you put on the surface of your skin is absorbed into your pores and gets into your bloodstream. The circulatory system distributes these toxins throughout the entire body, causing damage to internal organs as well as the skin. Since all of these products enter your body, you should analyze the labels on your cosmetic products the same way you would with labels on food. Carefully selecting safe, natural and organic skin care ingredients can help to eliminate the problem of toxins altogether..
10. Make Your Own Skin Care Products
Substitute a trip to the drug store for a trip to your kitchen and start making your own safe, natural and inexpensive beauty treatments. You can moisturize your skin with coconut, almond or avocado oil. Exfoliate with a gentle material such as crushed oatmeal, sugar or baking soda. Make exfoliating a regular part of your daily skin care routine and you will see much more life and bounce in your appearance. Whip up moisturizing or toning facials and masks using coconut oil, aloe vera, honey, egg whites, sugar, oats, olive oil, bananas, avocado or papaya. These are just a few suggestions. There are hundreds of easy to follow natural skin care recipes available online, in magazines and in books.

Hydration and nutrition! I can see a difference in my skin almost immediately when I decide to overly indulge. #wowlinkup
Hi Earl-Leigh,
You are so right! Hydration makes such a difference in my appearance too. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me. I appreciate it. Happy to make a new friend!
People often overlook the importance of staying hydrated. Thanks for these tips 🙂 #wowlinkup
Thank you for these tips. I knew there were natural facial care things out there but it’s so easy to slather on something in tube purchased from the skincare counter. I think I might try out the crushed oats idea. Interesting.
I don’t make my own skin care products because I love Dermalogica and I do not believe everything all natural is necessarily good for you. BUT I do do most of what is listed here which is why some people say I do not like totally my age. YAY! #wowlinkup
Hi Diatta,
I totally agree! You look fabulous! There is a lot a misinformation regarding so-called natural beauty products The ingredients many beauty products contain are not always good for our bodies.
I really appreciate the information you shared for making your own skin care products. I have serious allergies and a sensitive body, including skin. So it is crucial that I’m careful what goes (into and on top of) my body. Eating organic and using natural items on the skin has helped tremendously!
Hi Colleen,
It has been so life-changing to detoxify my skin care routine. I am so delighted that you shared your thoughts about natural skin care with me. I appreciate it.
