Is it just a coincidence that people tend to be healthiest when they’re feeling happy and fulfilled? Or is it a chicken-and-the-egg scenario where people feel happy because they’re healthy? While there’s no way to ensure permanent well-being, studies have shown that a positive attitude and outlook can have a tremendous effect on a person’s health. People who are naturally empathetic experience not only their good fortune, but share in the happiness of others. Plus, focusing on helping others will alleviate some of the problems that narcissism creates. (And there’s never been a more narcissistic period than our current modern age.) So if you want to boost your empathy and start feeling better in the process, reading literary fiction is one way to achieve that end.

For some, this is easier said than done. What with hectic work and social schedules, it can prove difficult to secure a solid eight hours of shut-eye every night. However, attaining quality sleep is absolutely vital to overall wellness –– both physical and mental. If you’re having trouble staying awake at work or during the day in general seriously consider changing your sleep habits.
Love Your Self-Image
From time to time we all can feel a little insecure about our bodies and our appearance. But fretting about your own self image too much isn’t healthy and won’t help you feel better about yourself. You can take little steps to make yourself more comfortable in your own skin each day though. Practicing positive reinforcement and envisioning success will help you focus and maintain a positive outlook. And treating yourself to cosmetic products like special make-up or even a hand lotion or skin cream can drastically improve your day.
