If you’re checking real estate listings in Ottawa, you should bear in mind that the joy you’ll find when living in this city will depend greatly on the neighborhood you choose. Make sure that you find the most suitable neighborhood, instead of just picking a home based on the price and the appearance of the property.
So which neighborhood should you settle in? While obviously the final choice will depend on your own personal preferences, the following neighborhoods do get high marks from residents and homebuyers:

Orleans Chapel Hill
Plenty of people who live here consider themselves lucky, as this neighborhood offers just about everything that families and young adults may want. Here the vast majority of the people speak English, though there’s still a notable French-speaking population. Also, about 1 person in 5 can speak a language other than English or French.
The homes here are mostly modern, as the majority of them were built in years from 1988 to 2003. The most recent prices of detached homes range from $425K to $800K, though more than 40% cost less than $500K. On the other hand, about 84% of row houses and semidetached homes were priced for less than $400K.
So why come and live here? There are two main reasons for that. One is that this is where you’ll find the famous Kanata Centrum Shopping Centre, where everything is right there. Then there’s also the fact that the whole area was largely developed around the Kanata Golf Course. Now there are two golf courses here.
There are also plenty of recreational places, with lots of green spaces and parks. Athletes will appreciate the many sports establishments here, and of course there are plenty of restaurants and bars where you can relax.
Carleton Square
This is part of Carleton Heights in River Ward, and this is where you want to stay in if you’re studying in the nearby Carleton University. It’s this appeal to students who need to rent a place to stay in which makes this area very appealing to investors. Real estate property here can generate large amounts of steady cash.
It’s great to live here as well, since it’s both close to the downtown area. It’s also near the only beach in Ottawa. It’s a great neighborhood for young families as well, since the public schools in this area are quite excellent.
Hunt Club Woods-Quinterra-Revelstoke
This culturally diverse community right by the gorgeous Rideau River proves that people with different backgrounds can live harmoniously.
The homes here are generally in very good condition. If you’re a nature lover, you’ll also appreciate the open spaces and greenery. There are plenty of athletic opportunities as well, which is why people here are ranked among the healthiest and most active in Ottawa.
Orleans Chapel Hill
This neighborhood can be found in the eastern part of the city. A quick tour through the streets here will let you see how the vast majority of the homes in this area are in excellent condition. Crime rates are extremely low too. There are also numerous walking paths in this community, along with pathways reserved for biking.
Old Stittsville
This community offers a feeling of open space, and that’s partly because 93% of the homes here are detached. But you can also try to live in the other parts of Stittsville, as the whole neighborhood is very active and family oriented.
