I admit it. I used to be a ‘full-price-designer-shopping’ addict until I discovered the New York City Opera Thrift Shop — a darling gem located right in the heart of the E. 23rd Street shopping district for 25 years.
Now I am a dedicated clothing recycler and selective thrift-shopper.
Described as “the highest quality thrift shop in New York City” by Vogue this charming two level boutique lends itself to a unique theatrical shopping experience unlike any other thrift shop in New York City. Donated items range from high end vintage and couture clothing, contemporary men’s and women’s fashions, furniture, artwork, antiques, home accessories, to books, music, and more — priced at incredibly low prices.
The best thing about shopping there is that all proceeds support the creation and design of costumes for productions at New York City Opera at BAM and New York City Center — so I not only shop there, but I donate clothing and household goods as well.
Each year, City Opera Thrift Shop lures you in with tempting special shopping events. As I walked by the shop the other day, the eye-catching sidewalk sign for their Annual World Event caught my eye.
For most of March, the City Opera Thrift Shop was transformed into a splendid world bazaar featuring true ethnic and artisanal clothing as well as modern clothing inspired by ethnic designs, prints and patterns.
Here are some of my favorite fashion finds under $15:
I will use this cute African print FEED bag alot!
