Many of us tend to do aerobics, Pilates, tai chi, and the like, but we shy away from weights.
All too often, when women begin a fitness program, we often avoid weight lifting.
The myth that strength training can make women develop huge muscles—is a huge
misconception, since weight lifting can actually tone the muscles and enhance our figures.
In fact, weight lifting and other muscle building exercises are just as important as aerobic
exercise when it comes to overall fitness.
In addition, body weight exercises can help strengthen the muscles in your upper body, core
and legs without the need for fancy gym equipment.
Your body weight can provide the resistance needed to develop and maintain muscle strength
and endurance.
Want to Lose Weight, Lift Some!
Weight training is essential for women over 30 years old who want to lose weight
or maintain our figures.
As we age, we begin to lose muscle strength.
Muscle tissue burns more calories than fat does; thus, resistance training is important to develop
muscles and boost the metabolism to prevent weight gain.
Weight lifting can help women:
-build stronger bones
-develop a sculpted, toned body that is shapely and feminine
-boost metabolism
-lose weight
It’s Good for Your Health
Health experts agree that weight training should be part of a total wellness program.
There are numerous studies showing the benefits of weight lifting for women at different
stages of our lives.
Strength training or resistance training offers many health benefits including:
-reduced blood pressure
-stronger bones
-stronger muscles
Benefits such as:
-improved muscle tone
-increased bone density
-better athletic performance
and increased strength are all well-established.
However, studies also reveal that strength training helps fight aging by maintaining lean
muscles in the body.
In addition, weight training helps reduce the risk of diabetes.

Start Building Muscle Now!
Research shows that cardio workouts should be combined with weight training for maximum health benefits.
This type of fitness training leads to lower resting heart rate, lower blood pressure, and increased strength.
Women with higher strength and endurance find it easier to perform many day-to-day tasks.
We are also less likely to suffer from injury.
Yet despite these health benefits very few women are using weight machines and free weights in their
daily workout routines.
If you are concerned that you’ll develop a muscular and masculine body by lifting weights, you can
lay your fears to rest.
There are so many documented health benefits for women who lift weights, so start building muscle now.

I earned $1000 simply from working out. My glucose, lipid and bp tests all came back excellent. I am so happy!!!! #wowlinkup
This is a great post with wonderful information. As a long time weight trainer, who is over 50, I can attest that all the benefits stated are true. In fact, most people think I’m younger than I am because I’m in decent physical shape (hint: I don’t let them see my old lady skin)
I love all the information you give to the first timer, or someone looking to get moving in the privacy of their own homes.
I am so glad you enjoyed this post.I am also glad that you are a long time weight trainer. I have been learning how important it is to add weight training to my regime. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me. I appreciate it!
I’m ready to switch my focus from weight loss to toning so this comes at the perfect time!

Love this post Deborah! When I first got into fitness, I was very scared of the weights, but 7 years later, I can’t imagine having at least 3 workouts a week without them. Sometimes I get a little bored with my ideas, glad you provided us some videos to check out =)
