When you’re choosing a college or university, it’s important to look for those who have been accredited.

What is Accreditation?

Colleges and universities are evaluated periodically by governing bodies in order to assess whether or not their programs meet certain standards and qualifications. Common areas of assessment include the school’s mission and ethics, teaching and learning resources, and whether the standards for the teachers themselves are up to par. Should I Look for Regional or National Accreditation?

If you’re looking at professional programs – for example, nursing school or a Masters in Counseling – you might not be able to qualify for a license unless you have attended an accredited school for your degree. Be wary of schools that are in the accreditation process or those that promise that you will be able to get a job with their unaccredited degrees: some of these are totally legitimate institutions, but some are not.
