Are you including fresh, fiber and nutrient-rich green smoothies in your diet?
Smoothies have become my new ‘nutrition-insurance program’.
It’s so easy to make a rich, creamy healthy super food smoothie everyday.
Life is busy and sometimes we just don’t have time to eat a wide enough
variety of the healthy foods we need to cover our nutritional bases.
In view of this, I have found smoothies are a great way for me to make sure
that I am including vital essential nutrients into my daily diet.
The fruits and vegetables will vary according to season and what is
fresh, organic and available at my favorite local markets.
I try to keep a variety of super foods on hand to add to my smoothies
and even to my oatmeal–to round out my nutritional intake.
I definitely love the energy lift that I get from these smoothies and
I feel good knowing that I am giving myself the fuel I need to do all
of the things I need to do each day–from work to exercise to play!
This smoothie is a variation on that theme.
Feel free to use whatever fruits and greens you have on hand to
make this your own.
Almond Banana Berry Protein Superfood Green Smoothie
Ingredients:
1 cup almond milk
1 cup hemp milk
1 banana – frozen
1 orange – peeled and sectioned
1 cup organic blueberries – frozen
1 cup frozen mango chunks
2 cups organic spinach – washed thoroughly
1 tablespoon almond butter
1/4 avocado – peeled
2 scoops of Orgain organic plant-based protein powder
2 scoops organic green superfood powder – I used Barlean’s Greens
1 tablespoon hemp seeds
1 tablespoon flax seed powder
! tablespoon chia seeds
2 teaspoons cinnamon
Directions:
Add ingredients to your high speed blender.
Blend until smooth.
Taste and adjust as needed–add a bit more liquid or filtered water ice cubes
if it your smoothie is too thick.
Drink a glass immediately.
Pour the balance into a mason jar to refrigerate for later.
Or pour the balance into a thermos and toss into your gym bag if you are heading
out to exercise.
That’s what I have been doing lately because my fitness trainer always emphasizes
the importance of eating or drinking some protein after our workouts.
If I don’t have time to make a smoothie in advance, I make sure to identify a few healthy,
reliable juice and smoothie spots from which to buy a fresh, protein-packed drink.
I also try to remember toss my handy glass eco-jar with a stainless steel straw
into my bag to avoid using plastic and to get a discount on my drink.
What are some of your favorite super food smoothie ingredients?

This sounds delicious! I love almond butter in my smoothies. I like the texture avocados give as well 🙂 Hope you are having a great weekend! I am working on a black bean soup recipe for you!
I bet I would like it. I love blueberries and banana with greek yogurt. Not as protein packed or exciting as yours but yummy. I love the jar. Where did you get it? I drink more water if from a straw. I don’t know why but it is true and would like the straw to not be plastic.
I use home-grown organic nectarines, almond milk, hemp protein powder, a little coconut oil, and pom juice. Maybe add a banana too, yummy! I like my greens in salads so I don’t add those…
Hi Nancy,
Oh my! Your smoothie sounds so delicious. I have to remember to add fat to my smoothies. I often add avocado, almond or peanut butter or coconut oil. I love adding pomegranates to my smoothies too. So nutritious!
