Vegans are often asked, “What Do Vegans Eat?”
Many people are not familiar with the vegan diet, and they are quite surprised when they learn
the wide variety of foods vegans do eat.
Often friends and family think vegans have to give up eating great tasting food, but that notion
is totally incorrect!
Vegans enjoy eating a lot of incredibly, delicious food–including amazing desserts–as long as it is
free of animal products.
Both dietary and ethical vegans eat only a plant-based diet.
This diet consists mainly of vegetables, beans, fruits, grains, legumes, soy and nuts–in all of
their gloriously delicious and nutritious forms.
Unlike vegetarians, vegans do not eat any animal or dairy products, including milk, yogurt,
cheese and eggs.
But as many of you know, there are manydelectable substitutes for meat and dairy products.
Still curious about what vegans eat?
Thinking about eating vegan but not sure how to plan tasty, balanced meals?
Want to see what a vegan might eat during a week?

This is a great visual, thanks for sharing it, Deborah! I was pescetarian for 8 yrs, but when I discovered all my allergies (I’m allergic to wheat/gluten, most fresh fruits and vegetables and nuts), my allergist strongly suggested I include some more variety, and now on occasion we eat a bit of poultry, but I try to find as many other options as possible. I’ve also recently joined the Meatless Monday movement and plan to share vegan recipes for it so some of these ideas are really helpful 🙂
Hi Danielle,
Thanks for hopping by. I am so glad you joined the Meatless Monday movement and plan to share vegan recipes. What fun it is to add variety to our diets! Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me. I appreciate your support!
Wow, great visual. I just interviewed my first vegan restaurant for my blog. It is called MIllenium in San Francisco. I should have it up in another week. I was so impressed with the combinations of vegetables and herbs the chef used to get so much flavor into his vegan cooking. I am looking forward to reading more about vegan cooking on your site.

Thanks for the pictures. I dont eat meat and people think all I eat is veggies. They are surprised when they see the yummy food I eat
Hey gorgeous girl – thanks so much for stopping by via #ctww this week! I LOVE your blog!
I have a question for you – I would love to eat more vegan food but cannot eat seeds, hemp, coconut or nuts. I’m also a real light-weight and struggle to maintain my weight. I eat avocados daily in a morning smoothie – yum and will snack on chickpeas readily. Do you have any suggestions for someone like me?
I was vegetarian for 20 years, but suddenly had cravings for salmon and chicken and feel SO much better now I’m eating them, but I’m still open to tweaking things to have a couple vegan days a week…
Hi Rachelle,
I adore your “Little green blog”! Thanks for connecting with me about vegan foods.I eat a lot of beans and bean soups. However, proteins are found in surprising places such as greens and many other vegetables. I know what you mean about cravings. I thought you might find this post of interest regarding vegan sources of protein. See what you think? “Where do you get your protein plus vegan foods rich in protein infographic”

Do you have the recipe for the curried stew. It look amazing!
Hi Najiyah,
That curried vegetable stew was from a delectable meal I had at Manna’s Vegetarian Restaurant on Amsterdam Avenue in New York City. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I appreciate it.
I am researching for my daughter who is vegan but on the light side. I think to make things not as daunting for newbies to vegan diet would be a complete menu plan (as above) with the recipes & shopping list of whats needed for the week:)
Happy health all
